Unlock Your Creativity with Morning Pages
If you’ve ever felt stuck or scattered before your day even begins, morning pages might be the reset button you need. Straight from "The Artist’s Way at Work," this simple practice helps clear your mind and spark creativity before the day gets rolling.
How it works:
Wake up a little earlier than usual. Give yourself 45 minutes to an hour.
Grab three sheets of regular paper. Not a tiny notebook and not a giant legal pad.
Write three pages of whatever comes to mind. Don’t edit. Don’t judge. Just write.
Do it by hand. Typing makes you want to clean things up. Handwriting keeps it raw and real.
Stop after three pages. No more. No less. Even if it’s just a list of things to do or random thoughts.
Why in the morning? Because your mind is fresh and your thoughts are still waking up. Writing first thing helps you set the tone for the day and sends your ideas into the background to simmer while you go about your routine.
A few rules to keep it powerful:
Keep your pages private. No sharing.
Don’t reread them. Just write and move on.
Stick to three pages a day. No catching up or racing ahead.
If you get stuck, fill the space with dreams, prayers or even arguments with your inner critic.
Morning pages aren’t about writing well. They’re about writing honestly. Try it for a week and see what shifts. You might just find your day feels clearer, your goals sharper and your creativity more alive.
